I actually think this would have improved the books in several ways. For instance, book 2: instead of rushing back for Hedwig’s cage when fleeing the Dursleys, Harry could have just left his pet behind and not really minded. Plus, while an 11 year old muggle would be all ‘oh man owls yeah!’, the wizard kids are practically drowning in owls at Hogwarts. A one legged kiwi would add some much needed diversity.
