Harry Hopper and the Philosopher’s Kidney Stones – Part 5

The sorting hat in the Harry Potter books seems more than a little overqualified for sorting students into four separate houses. It’s a sentient, magical hat which can read minds, and it only comes out once a year to do this one thing. Also, given that it sorts people by personality traits, it’s highly unlikely that in any given year there would be an equal number of students who are suitable for each house, which would in turn make the house cup competition an entirely unfair event. Our proposed alternative goes no way toward solving the unequal distribution issues, but does cut represent significant savings for the school’s magical hat food budget.
