Emergent

We went to see Noah last night, and the trailers included a new Godzilla, part 2 of the new new spiderman, Transformers 4 and I don’t know what else. There’s not much point complaining about lack of originality as rebooting old ideas is pretty prolific at the moment. That said, if you’re going to milk a beloved franchise, why settle for less than the gold standard?

Incidentally, not having watched Fireman Sam in at least a decade, I’m a little impressed at just how Welsh he is. So Welsh!

I also managed to catch Trollhunter on TV the other week, and I can honestly say it’s one of the most entertaining films I’ve watched of late. It’s a Norwegian film with English subs, about a handful of university film students who happen across a rugged old hunter whose job it is to keep Norway’s endemic trolls in check. It’s very well put together, nicely paced with great atmosphere, and set in some stunning Norwegian countryside. It’s very mildly scary, but focusses more on very dry humour as the team follow the hunter around learning about the various types of troll and how he handles them. Take a look if you get the chance! It’s apparently being remade in America, though I would be very surprised if they are able to do better than the original.
